To provide year-round positive, fun and safe places for all youth, helping them to build self-esteem and develop skills necessary to make right choices, becoming responsible and productive citizens.
The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Rogue Valley began in 1970. While times have changed, so has the need to help the youth of America. Focusing on the future of the country is more important now than ever before. Not only have kids been dealing with a lot of chaos at home and school the last few years, but their parents and other family members have too.
Many kids and young adults don’t have the luxury of a strong family unit at home to get them through tough times and to teach them foundational skills that will help them not only survive as an adult, but thrive. Between parents going through marital problems to parents struggling financially, it is sad to say but it’s the kids who suffer the most.
The Boys and Girls Clubs, and others like it, are a necessary component to the successful upbringing of America’s youth. They give the kids somewhere to go after school, they provide the parents with peace of mind, they feed the kids, the have sports and most importantly, educational after school programs.
Learning social skills is just as important as learning job skills. One of the largest challenges currently is staff shortage. The programs are full but there are still many kids out there who need somewhere to go after school. They are currently offering a wait list but time is of the essence.
We are working diligently to be part of the necessary growth of this club, and others alike. The community is all about family and family is the most important. None of us can do it alone so it’s up to all of us to make sure no one is left behind. Kids shouldn’t be excluded but the only way to include all of them is to do something about it.
