What are you looking at?

It’s Not Just You; There are Signs Everywhere

“Eyes are windows to the souls but signs are windows to the imagination.”

How much of your day do you think is spent looking at still images? It’s probably more time than you think. Still images are every you look; on your phone, on your TV, on your computer, in magazines, in newspapers, during your daily commute, while you’re running errands, on the weekend road trip and even on family vacations. For the most part, these still images are used to sell you something and there is no escaping them.

What about you? Not counting and of your technology, what exactly are you looking at? Do you look at the billboards as you drive down the road? Do you look at restaurant signs that are related to food to determine what you want to eat? Or, are you just reading them to find a small hole-in-the-wall store you’ve never been to?

What about still images in print? When you go to the Doctor’s Office, are you reading one of their many different magazines? Are you grabbing brochures on the way out based on your doctor’s recommendations? How about at a restaurant? Do you gravitate towards the images on the menu first?

Either way, there’s a whole lot of signage reading going on. Again, there’s no escaping it.

GETTING YOUR MESSAGE ACROSS

Now, what about getting your message across to other people? How on Earth are you going to compete with all those images people are reading every day? The best answer is that it’s going to take work! You have to be creative, determined, consistent, tactical and strategic. You want to say as much as you can in as few words as possible. You want to use contrasting colors as well as complimentary ones. You want to use the best software available and if you want to print, the best printers as possible.

What if you don’t have the skills, the time or the resources? The best answer is to hire a professional. They are not very expensive and can assist you with bringing your image to life in the most effective manner. Sometimes the most expensive thing you can do is to try to do it on your own. This is one of those scenarios. Hire an artist and a talented team that creates professional designs and prints every day. It will be very worth the investment.
