Holiday Memories That Last a Lifetime
Remembering the First Time I Experienced Snow at Home During the Holidays
Depending on where you grew up, you may have all kinds of Holiday memories and stories in the snow. If you don’t celebrate Christmas, there are still many memories you have with your family during December when everyone else is celebrating. Either way, the winter Holidays are synonymous with cold, rain, sleet and snow, and of course, all the ways to enjoy or combat the aforementioned.
If you grew up on the California West Coast like I did, the only time you ever saw snow was on TV and in the movies. We didn’t have a lot of money so we didn’t really go skiing, but we did get to a few times. We also got to go to the snow a few times when our family took us up towards Tahoe for the day. Either way, I hadn’t really experienced it much as a child because we lived too far from it.
When I was 9-years-old, it snowed in Sacramento and we had our very first experience at home. I have a brother, a sister, and also had many local friends at the time. We were all so excited. I remember looking up and seeing it glow from all the lights in the neighborhood.
Unfortunately, it was only in the late evening, but we still made it fun. It was only sticking to the vehicles because the ground was too warm, but we managed to make some slushy snowballs and had our very first ever snowball fight at home in Sacramento, CA. It was a great time and period in life. I still think about that childhood home and the Holidays with the family.
Wishing You a Wonderful Holiday Season. Stay Safe!
