Keeping the Spirit of the Fair Alive 365

Impacting & Connecting Local Communities thru Motorsports, Fun Hobbies & All Things Fair Related

The Spirit of the Fair is a feeling, but it’s also togetherness and community. The best way to explain this is to begin with the Fair. Most of us who grew up in the U.S. know exactly what the Fair is, but it’s something most of us have ever given much thought about. We grew up knowing that the Fair was once a year (usually during the Summer when it was really hot out) and we would go with our friends and family at least once.

The best memories growing up were at the California State Fair during high school. I can remember walking around the fairgrounds with my friends, and of course, trying to meet and/or impress potential partners. This was a big deal back then. We would all get “dressed up” to go to the Fair to eat the junk food, ride the rides and socialize.

There are many other aspects to the Fair that are very important to a lot of people, but again, most people don’t stop to think about. Fairs began long ago with Farmers gathering to sell their crops or livestock once per year because that was how long it took to replenish from one year to the next. Most Fairs were timed to be right after the seasonal harvest when everything was fresh and ripe.

Obviously, Fairs have grown over the years and are now a huge and very important aspect to any local community. It brings people to town from all over the place during the few short weeks the Fair is going on.

Now, taking all of that in, what happens the rest of the year? Most of the farmers and vendors go back home to begin preparing for the next year. It takes a very long time to prepare for an annual event. There are many moving parts. But, that doesn’t mean that attention can’t be focused on the community through the Fair.

Keeping the Spirit Alive 365 is just that. It’s taking the spirit of community togetherness we all get to experience a few weeks per year and extending it to a year-long and year-round community impacting and bonding experience. Not only do we focus on connecting people in the local community, but we also focus on helping others, especially those who need help.

Most of us are raised to focus on ourselves, but once we all take a step back and open our eyes to how important community is and what community actually means, we realize that none of us can survive without other people. The best part is that the more people that come together who are committed and working towards a similar goal, the happier and more fulfilled everyone will be. Success is not measured by your checkbook unless it’s a book full of checkboxes. Think about it.
